How do you check an electric fuel pump to be sure it is not faulty before assembling into fuel tank?

Get a container filled with gas dip the fuel pump in it below the wiring -then direct battery voltage to it-Watch out for spark-it is a dangerous technique to use-USE EXTRA CAUTION!
