1967 Pontiac Catalina Overcharging Battery

The car won't start all the time - it has to be jumped on occasion. Replaced the battery, but still having the problem. A trusted mechanic looked at it, tried replacing the wiring. Has a new alternator, starter - he says the battery is being overcharged which is draining it, but he can't figure out why. Referred us to a more specialized shop, but wondering if anyone has any ideas?
