Engine problem
1993 Pontiac Bonneville V6 Front Wheel Drive Automatic 145000 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
My ca has been parked for almost one year; I started it up to see if it would run. When it first started, the engine will race at 3000rpm; however if i put it in drive it would come down to about 1000rpm. I let it sit and run for a while but it still idles high - 3000rpm.

Have the idle air control valve tested and clean out the throttle body/plate, also the throttle position sensor.

I would try replacing the IAC valve and cleaning the ports and throttle body itself. These guides will help and I have included the IAC location in the images below.
