Service engine soon light just came on. No noises, smells, etc. What to look for? Can I fix it myself? Will an auto parts store run a diagnostic?

You can retrieve the trouble code(s) that are stored by using the check engine light. To do this, turn the ignition ON and make sure the light comes on for 3 seconds then goes off. If OK, attempt to start teh engine. Turn ignition off. Without starting engine, turn ignition ON, OFF, ON, OFF and then ON within 5 seconds. The light will flash 2-digit codes. For example, a code 24 will be 2 flashes, short pause, then 4 flashes. Let me know what code(s) you get and I will follow up.

Had someone check the code. It was 0138. Downstream O2 Sensor. Went to change it but could not. It's attached to the exhaust pipe and will not loosen. But after banging on it all those times trying to get it loose, the light is no longer on.
