1994, Plymouth Voyager Sport, 3.3L, Fuel-Injected. On occasion (every month, or couple of months or so) my van will run very rough. It will cut-out, occasionally backfire (not loud, just a puff). It has happened in all seasons & temps (in PA we have all seasons & temps). Under load (if I mash the pedal), it has all the power it needs, but if I try to hold a constant speed, it cuts out completely, and also will at times act like it's only firing on half the cylinders. The check engine light is on and has been since I bought the vehicle 6-years ago - as well as this problem has persisted. I've replaced: plugs, wires, cap, fuel filter, & fuel pump as well as rebuilt the entire top end 2-years ago. It has 234,000 on it, but is in great shape. Any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi:
If the check engine light is on, have you ever had the computer scanned for codes? Many parts stores will do it for free.

Thank you for the reply. Yes, I just took it to a dealership last week (unfortunately didn't realize most parts stores would do it for free, $70 later). They said the codes came up that the O2 Sensor and EGR valve needed replaced ($440). If the sensors are bad, wouldn't it behave badly all the time, not run good for a month or so and then run rough? The engine light is on all the time, whether it's running good or not.
Thanks again for answering.

The sensor and the EGR could be working then not working, so it is possible to experience the problem you had. Did you have it repaired? Is it ok now?

Thanks again for the reply. No, I had not had it fixed as I was a bit skeptical of it being the source of the problem. But... hearing from you that it's possible that the sensor and EGR could be working intermitantly, I feel a little better about proceeding with the fix.
Thanks again, and I'll be sure to email again if the problem was solved, or if it wasn't.
