Engine Mechanical problem
1991 Plymouth Sundance 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Manual 214k miles

This morning I went to start the car. It quickly almost started, but didn't. Before it's always been very easy to start. I checked to see if fuel was coming out of the injector and found it was. I checked for spark and found it was good. I checked compression and found lowest was 97 and highest was 103 psi. Spark plugs are light gray. Timing belt seems undamaged.

One thing odd, with camshaft at 'cyl 1 top dead center' possition. Distrubator at same place, I can not see timing marks. Any suggestions?

Are you saying when the dist. Rotor is pointing at # 1 and the cam timing mark is aligned, the crank isn't? If so, you jumped time unless it is 180 degrees out. Continue turning the engine over to see if you can get them aligned. Also, the compression is getting a little low for this engine. That could cause a hard start, but since this happened all at once, check the timing belt. It may have jumped a tooth.
