1988 Plymouth Reliant 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic
I have a 88 reliant 2.2. sometimes when I start and drive it, the idle stays very high , like 3500. It happens more often in winter, but never every time I start it.

Try cleaning out the idle air control valve and see what happens.
