The engine is a 2.6L Mitsubishi engine with 450,000 Km on her. This engine has given me years of great service. The other day I drove to work (around 20km) and as I pulled in to park she died. It restarted right away, but would not idle. I have turned the curb idle way up so that I can drive the car. When she is cold it runs fine and as it warms up the idle gets rougher and rougher. I checked all the vacuum line for cracks and found nothing. I sprayed soap water on everything and found that the intake manifold gasket was leaking. Changed that and it help a bit. I have done a compression test with results of around 150psi on all four cylinders, with no leak down at all. This leaves the carb which seems to be working fine. If I cover half of the carb the engine runs perfect. She is getting too much air but I have no idea from where. I also have removed the egr system and that is all blocked off. Should I pop the head off, don't want to because the head gasket is only one year old.

Could be something plugging the idle circuit in the carb. Try spraying around the engine with carb cleaner looking for vacuum leaks, it works a little better. You may be looking at finding someone who specializes in carbs to take a look at it.
