K I have tried the garages here in town and all I get is bring thit in for a scan which here cost about $150-175 ya right so maybe you guys can help me out. A week ago my gf bought this 97 Breeze, 2.4 DOHC auto with 232,000km (IM FROM CANADA). The car ran well for 3 days and still is but a few days ago I noticed a smell of burning plastic then shortly after the check engine light came on. Now I know how to check to get the code but the other problem is the odometer cuts out all the time so its next to impossible to get the code by using the tricks that are here on your site. Well Im no mechanic but today I got under the hood and started to poke around and ended up finding the burnt plastic smell. The box thats attached to the engine exhaust manifold and to the air cleaner and engine by rubber hoses, marked 'Multi-Port Injection" must have had a crack in it or something because the guy before me had duct tape on it which has now almost come right off and tends to hit the manifold causing that smell. Im sure this is why the engine light is on.

Heres the question:

What is this box and its contents called?

If I remove the 2 hoses attached to it and the screw in the manifold will it easily come out so I can see the damage?

What is in this box?

What is the purpose of this box?

If I take it off and manage to get a quick fix on it till I can afford a new piece how much will it cost to replace it?

Iwas told the part was called "Air Inlet Resonator". Can I easily remove it and repair the crack?

Sure, but make sure it is sealed real good, or dirt will get into the engine. It is like a muffler for intake noise.
