I reserected this baby after sitting for 6 yrs undriven. New battery and some barslleak 1500 miles later no heat and the air bag light is now on. Help? I had an issue when it over heated in VA blizzard two weeks ago and changed the battery cables- one looked a bit frayed. Now no heat barely blowing warm and the air bag light is on constant. No more radiator leaks and hoses all look good. Thanks

The most common cause for the air bag light to be on is a defective clock spring under the steering wheel. Eventually the horn and cruise control also will not work. They all have circuits running through the wound up ribbon cable. Your mechanic will connect a hand-held computer to the air bag computer to read the stored diagnostic fault code(s).

For lack of heat, assuming the temperature gauge reads in the normal range, feel the two heater hoses. They should be too hot to hold onto for very long. If not, suspect a plugged heater core. Back flushing with a garden hose usually clears it out.

If the temperature gauge reads low, suspect the thermostat. Pinch the upper radiator hose for a couple of minutes. If the gauge and air temperature from the heater ducts go up, replace the thermostat.
