1991 Plymouth Acclaim 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

My car had a rattle coming from underneath. A metal pipe, about three feet long, fell off from somewhere underneath. What is this and is it safe to drive about 1/2 mile to a mechanic?

Hi:
Is it possible to up load a picture of the item. It sounds like an exhaust component, but the engine noise would have changed if it was the exhaust, so if it hasn't, I need to see the part.
