My car makes a knocking noise when in gear but when the clutch is in there is no noise. Please could you tell me what it could be?

I'd say input bearing or lay shaft bearing possible gear tooth chiped. In neutral no noise clutch disengaged?

No noise in neutral only when in gear and driving along.
