2001 Peugeot 206

I was told that a piston had broken and wrecked the block on this Peugeot 206. I was driving along at about 30mph and the "bang". To make a long story short... could the damage to the piston have been caused by impact or damage to any peripheral parts failure? This is key to my insurance claim, I have read up on other causes but I have to try to prove an impact theory on the road. Any way I can suggest something hit the engine or its parts?Thanks very much in advance.
