Overheating

Car temperature gauge stopped and car made funny noise when applying gas then big puff of smoke out the back and smoke from under the hood and oil blown out and serpentine belt off. Overheating.

Your timing belt might have failed. The water pump is driven by the timing belt, so if the belt breaks, you will overheat. Can you upload a picture of what you got?

It was the serpentine belt that was off and I don't have pictures.

Okay, water pump failure still may have occurred. Here is a pic of the drive belt accessory arrangement. Some water pumps are driven by the timing belt and others are driven by the serpentine belt. Usually when the bearings in the water pump go the pulley will flop around and throw the belt so you should be able to feel how loose it is.
