I have code P0011. I had it checked and said over advanced timing. I'm wondering how to fix this issue. Thanks.

The timing belt was changed recently along with the computer, throttle body, battery cables, wiring harness from the throttle body to the computer, Solenoids, and the timing crankshaft sensors. BTW!

Hi,

The code indicates the intake camshaft actuator solenoid has a fault. Basically, the PCM can't change the timing of the intake side.

Now, my first thought was the belt may be a tooth-off. So, I attached two pics below showing timing marks. Please confirm that is how it was done. In pic 2, note the positioning of the intake cam timing mark is just above the mark on the cam locking tool and the exhaust is perfectly aligned. That is how it is put together.

The remaining pics are the diagnostics related to the code. Take a look through them and let me know if you feel comfortable performing them.

Let me know.

Joe

I didn't change the timing belt to begin with. Chevrolet did. So, looking at those doesn't help me. I paid Chevrolet to do all these things. Got charged $3,500.00 for repairs and I'm still left with this.

Took my car to Chevrolet for a throttle body code. They told me that it wasn't bad and said the computer needed to be replaced. They replaced that, the oil pan gasket, wiring harnesses and some Solenoids. The engine light came on again and took it back then it was the throttle body needed replaced. They did that. The engine light a third time, they said it was timing related and changed the timing belt. Now the engine is light once more but now they're avoiding me. Its code P0011. Over advanced timing. So, I just don't know what or how to fix this. My car runs it just idles so low when stopped at a stop light or in park that it shudders and shuts off. The RPMs go up and down but only when idling.

Hi,

The idle issue could be the result of a vacuum leak. It sounds like they were trying everything they could think of without proper diagnostics.

Do me a favor. The low idle speed could be a few things, one of which I mentioned. Start with checking for leaks. Here is a link that explains how it's done:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-use-an-engine-vacuum-gauge

If you don't find anything, return to the dealership and explain that you want them to perform an idle relearn/reset procedure. This should have been done, but I have a feeling it wasn't.

Let me know.

Joe

Plan to call today and see if I can get them to relearn it. It just doesn't make sense to pay $3,500 dollars for work that didn't fix anything. Thanks for your response. I'll check for air leaks as well.

Hi,

I couldn't agree with you more. If I spent that much and it was for no reason, I would be irate.

Let me know how things turn out or if there is anything I can do to help.

Update, I filed a report with the Better Business Bureau. They got in contact with Chevrolet. Chevrolet called this morning, and they want the car brought back to the service center. I'll take it tomorrow morning. They said if it's timing related the charges are on them. The code read out is over advanced timing. So, fingers crossed!
