Olds ECM

This is for a 89 ods calaise. 80kmiles, 3.3 lit eng, auto trans. The ecm was burned out, so replaced it but a notice from the auto parts company said the old ecm might have failed due to faultly eng components. The car was running fine before it died. What is the risk of connecting the battery and strarting the eng? Are there any known cases of failed computers in these cars?

Wont know unless you try it. That is a case of CYA by the manufacturer of the ECM.

That's what I thought, but, just in case, how do I test the coil for a short?

Measure across the coils. Should be.5 -.9 Ohms
