I have a 1992 Oldsmobile Achieva 4 door with the front engine pulley going out. It is making a nocking sound around or at the the converter. I am told this buy the guy who fixed the transmition a week ago. I thought he was the one who had done it but it seems not. I would like to know what a front Engine pulley is and what would happen if I drove the car to onother lot to be fixed and how much they usually cost to repair it if I was to do it myself. The car has around 240000 miles on it but has a rebiult V6.

The front pulley also called the crankshaft pulley is a mile long away from the catalytic converter. Why don't you get underneath and check it, it might be the exhaust pipe knocking into the frame or whatever/loose hanger etc.
