1995 Other Oldsmobile Models intake manifold

What are the causes of an intake manifold going out? Improper maintenance?
Also, the shop called with a repair bill of 700.00 parts and labor. Is this car, a 1995, worth putting that much into it? If so. Should I start looking at selling it and not putting more money into it?

What keeps failing on the manfiold?

700 bucks aint a bad investment on the car its low mileage.

Plastic or aluminum manifold? Cast iron or aluminum heads?
