1992 Other Oldsmobile Models 92 Acheiva cranks but no start

I changed vavle cover gaskets. Reset timing chain and gear, now it will not start. The engine turns over freely, no strange sounds or binding of the engine. However it doesn't fire, it did backfire and coughed out the air breather. Can help me figure this out.
