Good Afternoon,

Last evening my 98' cutlass made a quick click sound as I was nearing my desination, after which the lights all dimmed, the radio kicked off and the power steering went COMPLETELY.

After I pulled over I noticed the engine temp was close to the red, and after popping the hood noticed coolant bubbling out of the resivor tank. The accessory drive belt was also completely disconnected and off the assembly track.

My question is, is there any possibility that the accessory drive belt would affect my cooling system causing it to overheat? Since this belt is very close in proximity to the resivor within the engine bay, I'm unsure of weither the car overheated causing coolant to leak onto the belt assembly throwing it off track, or if what I am dealing with is defenatley NOT due to the belt coming off and more likely a engine/radiator problem.

Clueless, really need some advice here.

Cordially,

Rob Gregory

Hi:
It's hard to be sure, but I don't think the coolant would cause the belt to come off. It may slip, but not come off. Check the belt tensionier to make sure it's not bad.
