Engine Mechanical problem
1994 Oldsmobile Cutlass 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

I have 1994 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera v6
recently I fail smog replaced vacuum hose and purchased a new battery (dead battery for driving only on the weekends). Driving on the freeway (down a hill and starting up a smaller) the motor shut off. Still had electrical power. When the tow truck arrived. We retired to start. Nothing, but clicking sound.
The next day the car would try to turn over, but would not start (jumped loud click on 4th attempt)

checked-
-oil (low, refilled)
-fuses (all good in fuse box)
-sparkplugs (2-both warn with what seemed to be large gaps, but firing)
-smell of fuel in the plug
- sparkplug wires seemed connected
- cleaned air filter
Actions-
-Sprayed Starter Fluid in intake. 6sec, most dripped out. Seemed almost to start, but still did not.

Any thoughts on why it would not start?

Do below to determine if its fuel or spark problem

Get a helper disconnect a sparkplug wire or 2 and ground it to the engine at least 3/16 away from ground -have helper crank engine over-do you have a snapping blue spark? If so-you have a fuel related problem, check the fuel pressure to rule out the fuel filter/fuel pump/pressure regulator and listen to the injector/s are they pulsing or hook up a noid light. No snapping blue spark continue to troubleshoot the ignition system-power input to the coil/COP/coil packs, coil's resistances, distributor pick-up coil, ignition control module, cam and crank sensors and computer Note: If it doesn't apply disregard it.
