I have a 1988 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera 6cyl 3.8L. When I turn the key it starts to turn over fine for the first second. After a second passes the starter slows way down. There fore it won't start. I have no idea what the problem is. The plugs are fine they get power. I was told by a friend that it might be a ignition coil. Then again I was told that my car has no ignition coil. Others have told me it was my computer. I have no clue I need some help here

[quote:1cc5828550="rasmataz"]Cranks but no start condition:

Get a helper disconnect a sparkplug wire or 2 and ground it to the engine at least 3/16 away from ground -have helper crank engine over-do you have a snapping blue spark? If so-you have a fuel related problem, check the fuel pressure to rule out the fuel filter/fuel pump/pressure regulator and listen to the injector/s are they pulsing or hook up a noid light. No snapping blue spark continue to troubleshoot the ignition system-power input to the coil/coil packs, coil's resistances, distributor pick-up coil, ignition control module, cam and crank sensors and computer Note: If it doesn't apply disregard it.

So do you think this would be costly to take to a shop and have them look at it too find out what's wrong with it? I had to replace a fuel sensor while back. It ran for bout4 days. Then quit runnin. Came out and the battery was dead when I charged it I tried starting it and it threw the starter out. So I replaced the starter. Then It had the problem it's having now. The starter justs bogs or slows down after a second. When it was running it felt like it was losing power . I could feel it in the accelerator it would cut out for a second then come back. I dont know if this has anything to do with the problem at hand.

If both fuel and spark is present-check the valve and ignition timing, this will lead you to problems
with compression and valves opening and closing at the wrong time/broken or jumped timing
