I have a 2001 alero that has overall been a really good car. Only really had to replace brakes and tires. Recently I've been having some trouble with engine temp getting really hot when idling. I did some checkning (as best I could) and from what I can tell only one of the cooling fans is working. Also I only have the top two speeds on my heat/air fan (don't know if it is related or not).

Hello
Thanks for the donation.

The A/C/Heater blower motor fan speed is controlled by the blower motor resistor. This increases the resistance of the current in the wires which in turn causes the blower to blow less air. If 2 speeds are down then the resistor is faulty and needs attention. For your cooling fan, you need to inspect the cooling fan relay. There are separate relays for each fan so with only one working the relay is the most likely culprit here. Post results and I will follow up.

Thanks for using 2CarPros. Com!
