Security light in dash causes car to

1999 Oldsmobile Alero 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 100k miles
hey i was wondering if you could help me out...my alero has a security light that comes on and wont allow the car to start..however if i leave the key on for 10 - 15 mins it will start then..is there anyway i can unhook this security light problem or fix it...if so how...thanks

GM PASS LOCK RELEARN- Ignition to "run" position, try to start and let key return to "run" position
Approx ten minutes security light will go off
turn key "off" and wait 5 seconds
repeat 2 more times for a total of 3 relearns. Turn key off, then start car

Not that Im aware of.You might be having a problem with the piece in the column that reads the keys, that is why it has to relearn them so often. Sometimes there gets to be a buildup of shavings from the key/tumbler that can cause interference
