My vehicle has been making a weird clanking sound from underneath the passenger side. My father and I have opened the hood and have determined that the noise is coming from the bottom. The noise usually makes the most noise when the SUV is idle. The noise has been going on for about two weeks so I do not assume it is something super vital, but I am not sure if something can get damaged if the noise keeps on happening. I want to know if it is something that I can repair myself.

I have a short video which has the noise:

Unfortunately we cannot do that. Remove fan belt and start engine to see if noise is still there if it is not it is the accessory drive or the belt/tensioner or pulley. Belt and tensioner are wear items should be replaced at 60,000 miles.

My friend said it was the heat shield, could that also be a possibility?

Yes, they are riveted and the rivets break and it rattles against the converter sometimes you can fix it with a short sheet metal screw, but becareful not to go through the floor.
