My radio turns to backup camera with +12V wire when you put the car in reverse and the radio generates +6V to be send to power the camera. I've installed the radio from 2017 model year and it does not seems to have the pin for back up +12V, moreover, +6V is constantly being sent to power the camera regardless of the gear selected. The new 2017 radio has some CAN connections which I did, but still when I shift to reverse, radio does not go in to backup camera mode.
What do I need to do to make the camera work on new radio?

Hi, thank you for using 2CarPros.

You have a couple options here.

1. You can tap into the reverse switch its self. You need the wire that is dead in any other gear and give you 12v when in reverse. Tap that and run it to the camera input on the radio.

2. If the reverse switch is impossible to get to you can tap it at the reverse bulb in the rear of the car and run a wire to the camera input on the radio.

You will need to cut the input wire from the harness, and cap it so it wont short out. Then run the new wire to the radio where you cut it off.

Let me know how it turns out for you good or bad.
Thanks, Rich

Hi. You probably got me wrong. The issue is not with the reverse signal, as I have that signal in the harness. The question was how come the radio does not have that reverse signal input? Can it be that the 2017 radio gets the information on reverse gear through CAN bus? But having the CAN Bus connected, the radio still does not switch to how the camera when in reverse gear.

The pin out is great for wiring it in, the problem is the pin out tells me nothing about the internal workings of the radio. For instance, one possibility could be that they added another leg to the reverse switch on a 2017 that switched the ground for the camera so when it is in reverse the ground is completed but the hot is constant where it was switch on your model year. That is just one possibility of many. My example would be the simplest but engineers don't do simple. I could continue to speculate but trying one wrong guess could cook your camera circuit.

Here are the camera circuit diagrams for 2016 and 2017. As you can see they are very different circuitry. The 2017 diagram doesn't even show a reverse signal input or output.

Hello Rich, I'm surprised you have access to GDS, especially to 2017 model. I do have exactly these diagrams, and that is exactly what I was trying to say that there is no reverse signal input in the radio to trigger the camera mode. The only thing with your diagrams is that 2017 model should have 3 different diagrams since there are 3 different models of radios available with different pinouts, and the third one even with different connectors. My radio is type 2, and your diagram is for type 1 radio. Interestingly enough, the diagram that I have is also for type 1 radio. Would you please be able to post here the type 2 radio diagram for 2017? I assume it should be called STD3/6 and STD4/6 in the top left corner. Thank you.
Alex

Hi Alex,

It took some digging but I did find this. Neither diagram says what type the radio is but this is the only other one listed and it is different. Hope it helps.

Hi. There is a pin for reverse to trigger rear camera or you can install 360 camera. I had tried and it works perfectly.
