So one day I am getting my daughter ready for her drivers license road test, as we get done the car started acting funny shifting then stop for second or or two. We stop at the for a minute back in the start it up put it in drive, nothing, nothing, nothing. Okay, I get to drive but it is in limp mode. I just barely get the car home. When I got the chance to look at I am like "oh the solenoids are bad" changed them out. Same problem? Silly me I didn't think about the filter! So I changed it out and it works, but no reverse. What the heck? So my question is what could it be? I have no codes. No A/T lights, no hard shifts. The fluid is good. What now?

Hi Lamont,
Thanks for using 2CarPros. Let me see what we can do to help you.

This probably isn't good news. Of all the gears in a transmission reverse requires the most pressure to operate. Often the first clue to a pump issue is there is no reverse. It is very possible that if the filter was plugged up to the point of effecting other gears it may have damaged the transmission pump. My suggestion would be to take it to a transmission shop and have them pressure test it.

Please let us know what you find out.

Rich.
