I had just purchased a 93 Nissan Sentra (unknown engine size) and had brought it to the shop to get the AC fixed.
After their diagnostics they thought that it was an electrical problem with the AC. But unfortunately, after they were done, it would not start. The mechanic called me and said that he thought the computer went out in the car from the best they could figure out, but now are quoting me $650 for a new computer!
What happened here? How can a car I had been driving great for 3 weeks suddenly have a problem like this? Could there be something caused by the diagnostics of checking the AC?

Maybe. Maybe not. I have had weird things like this happen in our shop. Sometimes it is just a components time to give out. Sometimes it is caused by accident unwittingly. This is when it is good to know the shop your dealing with, that they would fess up to a problem, or tell you as they are telling you now if it wan't on their end.

Hey chicago.
Maybe I should introduce myself.I deal about 70% nissan in my shop. So answer my few questions maybe u find ur answer
- did the shop print u a complete diagnostic w/test result on ignition, fuel ctrl, scanner code and live data to verify the |PCM is no good?
- if so how much u pay for that?
- if they didn't bill u for the diagnostic (assuming thats something just happened and not their fault) ----> that will be a significant indication that they blotched something and covering up.
Outta at least 1000 and more nissan i've deal with. Less than 10 have bad computer which die naturally. Even on those 10 computers more than 1/2 of em was some1 pass 12 volt to the wrong input and shorted it out or wrong computers that people grab it from a junk yd and didn't know what the hell they were doing.
Keep me update on this. Very interesting

Hey Kin, Chicago

Good to cross paths, as always. Life is good.

That's a good point on the nissans. I don't recall ever replacing a computer on one.
