Heads and Head Gaskets

We have a 1985 Chevy 1/2 ton truck with a 305 V-8. We changed the water pump about a month ago, and the truck ran fine for about 30 min, then began to smoke and died. We started a couple of days later, and it ran great for about 15 min, then again smoke and died. Can you tell me the problem? If it is the heads or head gaskets, can you tell me how to change them?

White smoke out the tail pipe?

Should it turn out to be the heads or gasket You won't know until you get them off, and maybe then you can tell. Regardless the heads should be sent to a machin shop to magna flux, pressure test and shave them.
