Brakes problem
2005 Nissan Sentra 4 cyl Automatic 52000 miles

My brake lights (all 3) were not working and my step-brother replaced my brake switch which solved the problem. But there were 2 brake switches up by the brake pedal. He tried the first one and it didn't fix the problem, so he left it disconnected. He replaced the other switch and my brakes now work. But what is the other brake switch for? I'm a little concerned to have a switch that is disconnected. Any assistance/knowledge is greatly appreciated!

ASCD BRAKE SWITCH

Component Description
When the brake pedal is depressed, ASCD brake switch is turned OFF and stop lamp switch is turned ON. ECM detects the state of the brake pedal by this input of two kinds (ON/OFF signal). Refer to "AUTOMATIC SPEED CONTROL DEVICE (ASCD)" for the ASCD function.
It's your ascd brake switch aka your cruise brake switch.I would plug it back in.
