Engine Performance problem
2001 Nissan Sentra 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 75K miles

My car stalls at low idle (low RPM). So say I am at a red light (still on D gear), it will run for a few 10~15 secs and then hickups and die. It will start perfectly. However this does not happen if I turn on the AC or when the engine is cold.

Can anybody help me with this? Please let me know if I can provide you with more details.

Thanks, M

And the other thing that I forgot to mention was that, when I take of from a red light i.E. From a stand still; the car accelerates normally for about 1 2 secs and then takes off as if a small mini turbo applied ;)

Feels like the engine recieves a good chunk of fuel in its system. Feels like there is some stopage in the carb. But again I am no expert, but you guys are, so please help!

Thanks, M

First, are there any codes or is the check engine light on? Have you done anything to the car recently? When the car stalls out does it start right back up or does it take a little while?

There is no check engine light on.
Yes, I did get a oil change and tire rotation done recently. The problem started imediately as I took the car from the workshop, infact at the very next stop sign.

And, when the car stalls out, it starts right back very normally.

Are there any codes? How long has it been happening for? If you put it in park does it not stall out?

When you get to a stop and when the idle gets real low can you brake torque it and everything be ok? At this point I would probably try cleaning the Idle air control valve and throttle body.

Thats true!
I.E. When I get to a stop and when the idle gets real low; I brake and torque it and everything stays fine & ok!

Now I need to find out how to clean the Idle air control valve and throttle body. I will try googling this.

I really appreciate your time towards this.

My car does the same thing! Tho I had the throttle cable tightened to keep from doing the brake torque thing. But my car surges when I drive through town and slow down from driving on the highway, as well as stalls. I hope this insight helps me too. =)
