We have a 1991 Nissan Sentra. The alternator was broken just two months ago, but it was replaced. When the Sentra is turned on, the battery and brake lights are turned on. There is also a ticking sound along with the brake lights. However, when you push the gas pedal, and accelerate the car, the ticking sound, battery light, and brake lights go away. The alternator has been checked, the battery has been checked, and so have the brakes. They are all working fine.

I had the same problem with my 1994 nissan altima and when I replaced my alternator the problem was fixed. You should try to check out the starter also. Make sure all your cables are tightened.
