what would cause inlet valves to gum up in the valve guide and cause the pushrods to jump out from under the adjustment screw on the rocker

Hi there,
Incorrect valve stem running clearance, over lean mixture causing the valves to run hot and expand causing tight clearances, these are often the main reasons.
