shipped 1997 pathfinder from seattle to hawaii. no problem driving from portland OR to seattle. Drove fine for 25 miles in hawaii, filled tank, started to drive across island, climbed to 2200 feet, engine bogged down, then died. restarted and pulled off road. noticed much fuel (3/4 gallon leaking from overflow at left rear (behind charcoal canister evap control system) when gas filler cap was loosened leakage stopped but car still stalled when trying for higher speed.Had car towed, next day ran fine, drove over 100 miles no problem. (gas tank under 1/2 full . filled tank to 3/4 happened again. lots of gas from overflow tube at back of vehicle. engine begins to bog down at higher speed. was able to creep along and kept running. gas filler cap is motorcraft, Not Nissan part. after car cools seems to run OK. Whats the problem?

Is the gas cap specific for your vehicle or was it taken off another car? If the latter, get the correct one for it, what is happening is your tank is over-pressurizing due to the altitude. There may be a software or solenoid upgrade from Nissan to cure the high-altitude issues, but for starters be sure the cap is correct
