Transmission problem

my 96 nissan pathfinder runs fine, but doesn't always start. maybe once a week i try to turn it on and nothing happens. lights work, radio, a/c, high beams, and all, just nothing clicking to start. and it is really at random. i could drive the car 4 or 5 times in a day and the 6th it just gives up. usually starts the next day or hours later.
