1991 Nissan Pathfinder Starter does not turn over

I started the suv and let it warm up... drove to gas station turned it off and went inside... when i came out it would not start at all. no clicking from the solenoid. nothing. i tried to jump start it and still nothing. also i tried turning on the headlights and starting it and saw no draw in power.. the lights did not dim at all.. i consider myself a decent mechanic but this things to new for me to diagnose the problems. could some one tell me wat to look for and how to test.. i have an ohm meter and test light as well as regular tools. any info will be appriciated very much. thank you
