1999 Nissan Quest idles rough after head gasket replacement

I just had the head gasket, thermostat, and timing belt replaced on my van. It has 107,000 miles on it and before the head gasket problem which was causing my van to heat up, the car idled smoothly with intermittent roughness every so often.

I just got the car back and now it idles rough when I am in Park or stopped at a stop light. I asked the mechanic to look at it and he said that it might need some time breaking in since the engine was taken apart and put together.

I am not sure if I agree with him. Is there anything I should ask the mechanic to check out?

You are correct to assume that this does not sound right. The engine does not need time to break in for this type of repair. It sounds like the timing belt was put on wrong and the car is out of time. Take it to another mechanic and have the timing checked. Good Luck :)
