1995 Other Nissan Models Engine overheats

Engine Cooling problem
1995 Other Nissan Models 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 180000 miles

Engine while driving at any speed intermittley, cooling fan not running when engine over heats, but after stopping and restarting vehicle the fan comes on and engine temp goes down. what is causing the vehicle to overheat???????

Start by checking the cooling fan relays (2 of them) and the coolant temp sensor - sometimes called coolant temp sending unit, depending on model.
