I have a 2001 Nissan Maxima when cold it turns over then starts for a second then dies if I hit the gas it will stay running after about 20 seconds of my foot on the gas I can take it off and it will idle and run perfect. After a drive I can turn it off and on with no problems but if it sets for several hours or overnight it dies when I start it. If I let it set for a few days it takes longer to start.

Start by checking the coolant temperature sensor and cleaning out the idle air control valve air regulator and checking the FICD-fast idle control device.
