I have a 2001 Nissan Maxima with 84,000 miles on it.

I have 2 questions.

1. When I take my foot of the gas pedal and let the car "free wheel" I feel the car is solwing down like If I am gently pressing on the brakes although I am not. What could this be?

2. When I start the car I hear the engine rev up like if my foot was on the gas when i turn the key. It goes back to a normal state state but is that normal to reve up like that?

1. Caliper might be binding or the brake hose collapsed inside and acting like a one way check valve.

2. Its probably because the FICD is sticking maybe needs cleaning.

Thank you very much.

Sorry to be so dumb but what is an FICD and how can i clean it?

If it is a caliper or a brake hose, it s that expensive to fix?

The FICD-fast idle control device provides increase RPM during initial start-up and should shut-off within a few sec's. Something like toyotas cold start time switch to operate the cold start injector.

For the brakes-you need to have it all open-up to identify the problem-could be caused by the parking brake needing adjustment.
