car idling and jerking

I have a 1992 maxima that is idling up and down when it is sitting still. when driving along it jerks when you give it gas and sometimes it slows down when you apply the gas, if you easy of the gas and then apply gas it will take it, but you can not apply gas hard. There has been a new airflow fiter,and gas filter put on. There is no check engine light on to indicate the problem. It sound like its going to cut off when gas is applied and jerks . It s a daul over head cam, v6 3.5 ,170.00 miles.please help with this prolem.

I will take a guess and say one or more spark plugs need replaced. I would take it in and have a diagnostic done it and they can pinpoint the problem. I had the same thing happened to my car where I was driving along and it jerked and wanted to shut off. Felt like the car was not getting enough gas and I took the car into a dealership and did a diagnostic test. The result was a bad cam synchronizer.

Check around and ask your family and friends about a trust worthy dealership. I would not go to a repair shop since I tried this and they did not know what the problem was and wanted to take my engine apart.
