The "service engine soon" light is on in our '99 Maxima and upon checking the trouble codes, I've learned that the problem is with the EGR system. The code is for "excessive or insufficient EGR flow detected". At first I thought the problem might be a clogged EGR valve (which is very hard to get to because it's located under the intake plenum) but was told by a local mechanic that EGR valves don't usually go bad and that the problem might be the EGR temperature sensor. He wasn't sure where this sensor is located and was going to do some research and get back to me. In the meantime, I thought I would try to find out the answer myself. Does anyone know exactly where the EGR temperature sensor is located on a '99 Maxima or have any more insight into this problem?

i disagree with him. my suggestion is to replace the egr solenoid. this is the electrical device that controls vacuum to the egr valve and its located close to the intake manifold and gets hot and cold often causing it to fail. this solenoid is the green one.
