what does a knock sensor do it retard and advance your timing it depends on the engine loads .will it help your gas mileage let say if your timing is stuck retarted or advance then yes ,they internal failure they crack cause it set right on top of the intake manifold,how much will it depend aftermarket 0 to 75 dollars , dealer $75 to 120.
