1993 Nissan Maxima Raw gas smell

For the last 3 winters, whenever I start the car, there is a strong smell of gas coming into the cabin. The smell continues for the first 1/2 hour of driving. It never happens in warm weather. My mechanic cannot find the source. Can you help?

Tell him to use a HC sniffer to detect it-could also be a leaky injector/s or fuel pressure regulator dumping fuel and charcoal canister saturated with fuel
