1993 Nissan Maxima Ran out of gas ..car wont start now

1993 Nissan Maxima 6 cyl Manual 130000 miles

Car wont start. ran out of gas ..on a steep hill, i was able to pop the clutch and drive the car home, but at stop lights i had to rev it up to keep it on. Got home the car wont start, a mechanic told me that the car had to primed up because it had ran out of gas. do you have any suggestions?
