Transmission problem
1990 Nissan Maxima 6 cyl Wheel Drive Type unknown Automatic 145000 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
My car heats up pretty quick and it holds the temperature for about 10-15 minutes and the needle on the temperature gauge will drop down to cold and won't come back up. I thought it was happening when I would slow down coming off the interstate, but now it happens when I'm going at a steady pace, too. When I lose the heat, my car feels like it's heavier and the engine is louder. Does anyone know why this might be happening and what I can do to stop it.

Have you checked the coolant level? If it's good replace the thermostat, and pressure test the radiator and cap. Last coolant flush and fill was? if more than 2 years now is good!

It's either coolant or thermostat. I had the same problem. I changed the thermostat and the coolant and now my car is fine.
