I have a 1987 Nissan Maxima with 210,145 miles with a V6 3000 motor. My problem is that suddenly the starter does not engage the flywhell to start the engine. I can hear the starter motor turning. I have replaced the battery, started and battery cables. I think it may be the neutral safety switch but do not know for sure or if I am going in the right direction. Can you offer me any advice on what might be the problem and how I might diagnose the problem?

Thanks, :?

Could be the overrunning clutch slipping in the starter or the starter drive pinion is jammed against the flexplate

If you can hear the starter kicking when you turn key to start-the starting circuit is okay from the ignition switch thru NSS and starter relay. Double check the starter
