broken interior door mechanism

1999 NISSAN ALTIMA 160K MILES MY DRIVER SIDE DOOR MECHANISM DOESNT UNLOCK THE DOOR. IS THIS SOMETHING I CAN FIX MYSELF OR DOES IT NEED TO BE FIX BY A MECHANIC

It's usually more pain than it's worth to try and fix the broken mechanism; most mechanics will just replace the unit. But as far as that goes, you'll have to remove the door panel;which isn't rocket science, but it does take a lot of patience and you generally break a couple of the snaps that hold the panel in place. You can pick more of those up at most auto stores for about $2 a pack. After that ordeal it's just unmounting the mechanism and replacing.
