altima gxe high HC emissions, 1993 automatic. Can oil soaked ignition wires arking cause high HC and CO emissions? Auto shop ran diagnotics and said sensors were fine and insisted on changing the distributor. $700 later, emissions still high. Is it the wires or the sensors? Thanks

Is it the wires or the sensors? Could be

Got DTC's

Could be bad catalytic converter not scrubbing it or an air pump. This could cause high both HC/CO

And a few more such as coolant temperature/oxygen sensors/leaky injectors/ignition misfire/lean misfire/low compression ( burned exhaust valve)
