I have a 2001 Nissan Altima GXL (mileage 112,000 4cyl.) The check engine light came on and the diagnostic gave a code of P0300. Mechanics I've taken the car insist that it is a fuel injection problem. They've replaced fuel injector, but check engine light remains. The car weakens when idle as if to turn off on its own, but then goes back to normal. What do you think is the problem? I can't even afford to take it to mechanics anymore. They've even charged me for work not done.

Faulty spark plugs or wires
Faulty ignition coil
Faulty oxygen sensor, unlikely but possible
Faulty fuel injector, test to see they are getting proper voltage at proper time.
Burned exhaust valve, test with compreession test.
Faulty catalytic converter, exhaust smell like bad eggs? if so replace it
Stuck/blocked EGR valve, take apart and clean, may be stuck open due to carbon build up
Faulty camshaft position sensor

those are just about all of the solutions.

if the car stumbles or hesitates when accelerating then check the sparks, wires, and dist cap & rotor first.
